Learn to paint in Acrylic paints - Step by Step
I had two wonderful experiences this week with my new hobby, painting that I want to share.
The first one happened this Thursday night. My wife works at the cancer center for the local hospital. One of the employees of the hospital organized a fund-raiser for the center. It was a paint and wine night at the Mackinaw Trails winery.
The event included one glass of wine, the materials needed to paint, and an instructor to walk us through the painting. She brought one of her creations, a sunset with a lighthouse in silhouette.
At first I felt a little uncomfortable there because I did not know anyone, but then I was invited to join some people at a table. We introduced ourselves, then got ready to paint.
The experience was a lot of fun, and I was able to learn a thing or two about painting. I posted a picture of the painting I did on the site here if you want to see it.
The second experience happened today. My son and his family came up to visit, and my 8 year old grandson asked if he could watch me paint. When I said yes, he then asked if he could paint too, and how do you say no? So of course the answer was yes.
We went to my studio, otherwise known as the basement, and I got a canvas I had already prepped with gesso. We both put on some of my old tee-shirts as painting smocks, and started to paint.
I decided to do a reproduction of the painting I had done at the paint and wine, so I got us started, then I showed him some things he could do on the painting.
We worked together. I let me put the orange rings around the sun, then I came back and blended them with some white, yellow and red.
We then worked on the sea, and finally the sand and grass. He helped paint the ocean blue, and he helped put the grass and the cat-tails.
I finished the painting by doing the light house.
Because we used acrylic, the painting was dry enough for him to take home.
The best part of the painting? The two of us doing it together.
He really enjoyed himself, and wants to get his own painting supplies
