...little cove and sand are fighting me...suggestions?

Hi folks, I just can't seem to conquer the little cove - water ripples, and is my sand ok? Yes, I also used a black and white photo for contrast/value guidance, plus printed off a picture of painting as is, the better to judge/see what to fix. Now I am coming to you for a critical eye. Thanks in advance.

"Other than Ampersand finished panels, I do two coats of sealer followed by two coats of gesso.  I previously used Golden GAC100 as a sealer, but recent tech notes from Golden state that their Gloss Medium is a better choice, especially with…"

"Thanks Charles! Great info! I did buy several various brushes at the hardware store and am trying them out. Love the foam roller idea, will definitely try that! How many coats of gesso do you do?"

"Nice question, Marion! For surface preparation, I seldom use brushes.  I like a bit of "stipple" on the surface, so typically use 4" rollers.  Full size rollers just take too much effort and water to clean.  If the…"

Profile Information

How long have you been painting? Doing any kind of art?
I have only been painting since 2013. Took a class and one of the first things the teacher said, was : anyone can learn to paint, you just have to practice. Wow! Magic words. Always thought talent was just born, not created and learned. Sewing, quilting and fabric art have been part of my life for nearly my whole life.
What other mediums have you used?
Mixed media, fabric.
Are their specific things you would like to learn?
Everything, lol. Fascinated by colour, how to use, theory, etc. Brush strokes, palette knife techniques.
Where did you learn about this website?
You tube....typed in how to paint....
