"Alright!!!! we get to paint a scene from where the impressionists loved to paint...Dorset coast...yahoo! Well at least we do not have to walk out into the water :) to do it. Thanks for posting this Linda and thanks everyone for voting for it!!! Can…"
"You certainly picked a difficult scene to paint! Just to be controversial- I like the red!! It's the same tone as the yellow on the train- which is what happens in the photo. You've made it brighter but that fits…"
"Hi Charles, love the foggy atmosphere- I love trains, but find them difficult to paint. may I suggest here that you take another look at the carriages in the photo. Looks to me like the sides of the carriages are a whitish colour with probably…"
I love your painting, so this is not a criticism but an idea that you might want to think about, regarding shadows.
You have said: One thing to note is that the photo has overhead light and I changed this so the light was from…"
"What a marvellous bird. I think you've made a great start, and while I have no idea what colour he would be, I think if you make the patterning on his feathers as clearly shown on the photo really crisp, and keep the background…"
Obviously the highlights are needed- one question- is this glacial water? It reminds me of Niagara Falls- with the sun 'behind' the water going over the edge, you could see the lovely green of the glacial water- I may…"
How long have you been painting? Doing any kind of art?
Beginner, It's been a while, Switching from another medium
What other mediums have you used?
Are their specific things you would like to learn?
To paint landscapes and wildlife in acrylics
I have tried watercolours, then tried acrylics- I've only painted 3 pictures but really enjoyed doing them. However I realise now, having seen various videos including yours Karen, that I was using watercolour technique- I'm going to do your colour mixing charts which I think will be a great help, then go for blocking in etc.
Hello and welcome to the site Linda: you are a great addition.... it is nice to meet new friendly people.... thank you for the compliments on my paintings... I like to paint what surrounds me... Nfld.. joined Canada in 1949., it is an Island and surrounded by many other Islands [ smaller], which were inhabited by people... and once Canada took over... the premier, moved all the smaller island people to nfld. most were fishermen... and when they painted their boats, and had paint left over, they painted their homes the same colors, and the story goes... that is why the colored houses... in the capital.. St. John's.. there is a street with many colored houses, and it is called Jelly Bean Row.
The colors and styles fits right into my Folk Art style painting... in some cases, it looks more like the real place.... like in the one that is titled Red Island....
Many of the new inhabitants of nfld. came from England and also Ireland... I noticed a lot of the landscape and homes are much like here...
thanks again for the lovely comments... there are so many different style artists here, that it makes it more interesting.. than everyone doing the same thing.... Jeannie.
