"I'm glad to be helpful Mike. I do my best to explain my process as much as I can - which is not always easy when you are working with something intuitive like art! I think it does improve the painting to bring both sides of the brain into play.…"

"Wow, this is going to be a tough one Mike. The fence is so prominent and contrasts strongly with the snow so it really grabs my attention.  And I don't think it helps your composition. The foreground one blocks our entry and the one on the…"

My First Commission

A casual friend of mine sent me this digital photo and asked me to paint it.  I told her it would be an impressionistic representation as that's what I do.  I try not to replicate photos.  Now the challenge is to what to leave out.  It lends itself nicely to the Rule Of Thirds.  The birdhouse will be my focal point.   Thoughts?  It's my first commission and I don't want to blow it.…See More

"Hi Mike; I love the whimsical quality of your painting.  The colors you have used and the positioning of the sheep are wonderful (I like that they are looking at us....). I read Karen's comments with interest as we all learn from them. I…"

"Just going through some older photos and I came across this stunner.  I can never get my sunset on water reflections to look that good.  Would love to know your secret.  Nice job Vera.  "

"Philippe, I really love this.  I don't do many urban scenes, mostly because they are very challenging.  I love the level of detail, especially i the bicycles.  You captured the mood of a rainy night in Paris just perfectly.…"

"How fun Mike! You've added color and a whimsical quality to this scene which is very appealing! You have given us a story about the personalities of these sheep. Just kind of strewn across the landscape with no concern about being in the way!…"

Profile Information

How long have you been painting? Doing any kind of art?
Five Years. I received a cancer diagnosis prior to that and I find that painting is the perfect therapy for me. I have no background in art prior to that. I mostly do landscapes and seascapes.
What other mediums have you used?
Graphite and charcoal sketching.
Are their specific things you would like to learn?
Glazing techniques, water surfaces, composition, light, knife work.
Where did you learn about this website?
I took a tutorial from Karen on a craft site and I liked her style and teaching method. It was a tutorial where her neighborhood was the painting subject. I liked the thought processes that went into her painting. I have since watched YT videos of Karen and then I discovered this site. To me, she is to acrylics what Bob Ross was to oils.

Thank you for the friend request Mike. Also, thank you for your kind words. I picked up my brushes in March of 2013 to begin studying and learning. Now I have begun my 3rd year. Too much fun! How about you? This is not your 1st rodeo judging from the quality of your work!?! Grins,
Lynda
