"Merry Christmas to you, as well, Gary.  What a beautiful way to send the message.  The lights and darks are beautiful - as always - and I particularly like your water.  A beautiful painting, Gary! "

"Gary, this is beautful. You have achieved such a feeling of light and sunshine. The only constructive criticism that I can offer is that the line in the fields going from house to trees is very straight and very defined. I think in nature it would…"

Thx Gary:  I'm a big fan of your work; Sunlite Oldie included.  You have a style I really envy and as a landscape designer, landscapes are my favorite subject.

It's probably me but when I look at the water in Sunlit Oldie, it looks like it is much higher than the land area with the tree and gives me the impression that the water is going to spill over and flood the thin beach and the green grass.   Is the tree painted from a depression?  I wondered if that makes any sense to you.   I can't figure out why it feels that way.  There is one other water photo you've done that has a similar feeling to me but not as strong and if I can find it I'll shoot you the name.

I'm so new to painting that my only credential is to share what I see.

Thanks for letting me ask and if you reply, thanks in advance.  Mary

Hi Gary, Regarding the questions you asked about my Place to Rest ink and wash sketch: Do you use an Ink pen and than add watercolours? Does the ink not run? What size paper and how many grams? Where do you get the photos from? Or are these all plein air sketches? I would be very grateful for you answers.

Yes I sketched it in ink (a waterproof ink pen: Deluxe Micro Uni-Ball) and then I added the watercolour. So using a waterproof pen ensures the ink does not run.

I did this one on a Canson Montval Watercolour Block 140lb/300g weight 9" x 12" (22.9cm x 30.5 cm)

I used a photo from Artist Reference FB page that I belong to. Only members can use these photos and/or post their own photos or paintings they have done from photos on this site. It's free to join. I did this one because it was part of their March challenge, which I have now entered.

Hope this answers all your questions, and look forward to seeing your try at this medium. I also do ink and wash sketches (meaning I do not use watercolour, just water soluble pens and water) I do these ones more plein air, but will be moving to waterproof ink and watercolour plein air when the weather is nicer.

Cheers, Wanda

Yes, of course Gary, paint away! I'd love to see what you do with it. I had taken the photo for a future painting, but just never seem to get around to it. It is the St. Mary River in Kimberley, British Columbia (Kootenay region) Cheers, Wanda
