I coated a sheet of 300 lb watercolour paper with gesso and then painted it with lots of acrylic paint (like the floral part but all over the paper), then I did negative painting to create the blossoms and the pot. Lastly I applied pastels to some of the acrylic and this is my outcome.

How beautiful, Wanda!  I love the soft colors and the natural look of the plant.  What a great result of your process.

I have painted a few acrylic paintings on watercolor paper using gesso and acrylics (no pastels) as you describe and find it works pretty well.  However, I always feel like I need to put them behind glass when framed as they seem a bit more fragile than canvas or hardwood.    What will you do with this one?
