Nice one! The values are great! there is a sense that it is a stormy day in just a few strokes!

what fun Philippe! i have a small sketch book. i have been doing some of these, for a bunch of reference photos. just to see which ones i really want to paint. i never thought of putting color on them! interesting. thanks for sharing. i haven't been posting many paintings lately. i have been busy sketching. thanks for being so helpful :)

Thanks Sarah.

I find these quick studies very helpful. We learn to view rapidly the most important aspects of the reference photo. During an hour or so we have the oportunity to  examine this reference and see where traps are. And above all we can adjust values and composition.

Very nice, Philippe.  This quick study is the beginning of a beautiful painting.  You have a good eye. and this looks like a good composition. I think from your study that the figures in the background are walking toward the car, which will keep the viewers eye on the focal point. What a great job.  For the most part, I still do preliminary sketching in pencil and I really like your idea of using markers. Thanks for sharing this.

Here is a quick study (less than 30 min) for a bigger painting. I did it only with acrylic markers. Colors are not pretty because I haven't a lot of available colors. My purpose was to test the composition and values.
