Adirondack Dawn

Acrylic on Canvas, 11 x 14.
The sun rising over the Adirondack mountains, painted as a gift for my son and his wife. The colors seem slightly different in a sunrise but hard to describe why....

Thank you, Deborah. I so appreciate your positive words. The color palette for this painting: alizarim crimson, cadmium yellow -medium, lemon yellow, pthalo blue red hue, dioxazine purple, raw umber and titanium white. The higlights on the tree trunk are light and dark mixtures of alizarim crimson, cadmium yellow medium and dioxazine purple with a little burnt umber once is a while. The mid trees are the same colors, muted a bit more.

This painting feels spiritual to me. The light and color are beautiful. What colors have you mixed to get the highlights on the tree and distant foliage?

Wonderful painting. I love how you blended the sky and the light on the mountains are gorgeous!

Thank you, Micki. The colors in the real life sunrise are hard to describe, pale pastels, but so bright. Hard to find those colors in paint. I kept getting too dark and had to lighten the colors used everywhere. While this is certainly not an exact replica of that sunrise, I felt like I captured the colors a bit.

Sarah, I just love this. Your palette is so soft and nice. Love your sunbeams. This almost looks like pencil or chalk. So soft.

Thanks, Philippe. I am pleased that typy like it. I had a hard time getting a good photo of this one, so I am glad you can see the color variation.
