Learn to paint in Acrylic paints - Step by Step
In between paintings, I have been painting rocks.
I started doing this with my grandchildren as a fun painting project - and it has morphed into something more - a fun stress reliever for me!
It is like doodling with a paint brush.
The key is no pressure to do it exactly right - just have fun - it is a rock! If I like what comes out, I keep it. If I don't like it, no problem because it is only a rock.
Another nice aspect of this is that people seem to like them! When friends and family leave my home, they take a rock with them (which keeps them from piling up). When varnished, they can be put outside in the garden or near a path.
Has anyone else tried this? I recommend it if you want a short, fun, low pressure activity using paint and brush.
Yes - it's fun. Let me know if you like it!
Yes - it is quite fun. They want to paint rocks now whenever they come....
I have a small seascape done in oils on a beach stone from NS in 1956 by a late aunt from Rhode Island. Does that count? Guess it shows that the idea has been around for some time, at least . . .
Yes - it all counts. It probably is not a new idea - painters will find anything to paint on! It is great that you still have the stone that your aunt painted. Rocks last!
I am happy to hear that others have painted on rocks too! That way my family won't think I am totally crazy:)
Love this! Especially like the little cottage. It looks like a Hobbit home :) It would be fun to paint monsters on them, too. Cute monsters :)
Yes,cute monsters would be fun! Although monsters of any kind are not popular with my grandkids right now - perhaps in a few years:):):)
Great idea Sarah!!! Thanks for bringing this creative skill to this site!!! I love the idea of company taking a rock with them when they leave too! I have lots of blasted rock (from being on a small mountain and a road going in)....so I'll choose a rock that looks like it could be "something" and paint it in!! Great idea and lots of fun! I love yours and the varied scenes you've painted...you're a talented lady!!
Yes - it would be great to find a rock that looks like something and paint to enhance the shape. I would love to see them. Being on the lake, I have been painting mostly smooth lake rocks. I wold love to see yours when done!
